Porter Cable Belt Sander-Hard core Power Tool
Written by admin on November 13, 2008 – 10:50 am -The Porter Cable Belt Sander maybe the toughest Power Tool in my Shop. I have been an amateur woodworker for a lot of years and I have seen Power Tools come and go but the one that has lasted the longest is the Porter Cable Belt Sander. This tough little sander has with stood more abuse than I can describe. It has been used for everything that needs sanding (and a lot of things that would never be recommended by Porter Cable) and has never even slowed down. I love this little 20 year old sander there is nothing in the shop that can compare. There is nothing sexy about it. It just does the work. I like the fact that it is heavy enough to get to work right away, it grabs the work without effort on my part and just goes to work. I don’t... more

Sanders- The image making Power Tool
Written by admin on October 27, 2008 – 11:15 am -No woodworking project is complete until it has smooth beautiful finish applied and no finish is better than the surface on which it is applied. Unless you want to start the finishing process over from scratch it is important to note that you MOST have a completely smooth surface BEFORE you apply the surface coating. I have been guilty of this some many times in the past I could not even begin to count them but I still find it hard to wait until I am certain I have smoothed every surface on my project so that cutting or sanding marks will not show up after I apply my coating. There always seems to be some small area that could have been worked on a little more. No project is perfect but when the error stands out it is down right frustrating. I... more

Cordless Power Tools-Powerful Mobility
Written by admin on October 27, 2008 – 10:44 am -Cordless Power Tools provide freedom to roam. Not long ago I thought the cordless tool to a worthless addition to my woodworking shop. Not enough power to really get into a project and the batteries really sucked. After all as a redneck woodworker I am into more Power! The more power the better and the cordless power Tools simply did not have the power I wanted. Well things change in a hurry in the world. With the improved lithium batteries there is now power enough to complete some pretty hefty projects. They are lighter and can last twice as long as the older heavier battery. They still required recharging but not nearly as frequently and the run the power tool at full power until the charge is depleted. The lithium batteries... more

The Radial Arm Saw-The Radical Power Tool
Written by admin on October 27, 2008 – 10:32 am -The radial arm saw is made up of a motor just like a circular saw and it is suspended from a long arm with a yoke. This lets the saw rotate at multiple degrees. The motor connects to the overhead arm and all parts can be locked down or left to pivot. This saw gives the woodworker a great deal of flexibility in the cuts that can be achieved. DeWalt was the first on the market and it continued making this saw up until 1989 when the rights were sold to the American Saw Company. Sears has been making radial saws since 1958 and Delta entered the marked back in 1948. The versatility of this Power Tool is the reason this saw remains so popular.. It can rip, cross cut, and it can do rabbet cuts and miter dado. By adding on of the many attachments and... more

The Router-The Creative Power Tool
Written by admin on October 27, 2008 – 10:25 am -“The Router-The most versatile and safest of all woodworking Power Tools“. The Router is a high speed Power Tool, with speed of from 20,000 to 27,000 revolutions per minute, depending on the model. The most popular sizes for the home workshop woodworker weigh about 6 pounds. It has a universal 115 volt motor, although other voltage motors are available. The manufacturers, who had been supplying professional woodworkers with these Power Tools for many years decided (rightly) that only light compact models would satisfy the average person. The result is a tool that is easy to handle even for the novice in the power tool field. What does a router do? The router cuts into and trough wood and many other materials... more

The Drill Press-The hole story
Written by admin on October 27, 2008 – 9:55 am -THE DRILL PRESS Not too long ago, the drill press, as we know it today, was considered a machine strictly for drilling holes in metal. From this limited application, the modern versatile power tool has advanced to a point where it is now to be found in all kinds shops performing a multitude of operations. Hello Redneck Woodworkers!
Written by admin on August 22, 2008 – 5:27 pm -Power Tools: We have come a long way Baby! More power for our power tools, yep power makes all the difference. Or does it? My father was a true craftsman. He wasn’t a professional wood worker and he sure didn’t have the shop full of power tools we have today, but he built fantastic projects with the tools he owned. We didn’t have a lot of money so it was often necessary for him to build furniture for our use at home. Beds, dressers, frames, cabinets all were built with the tools at hand. I never heard him wish for something more than he had when he started a difficult project. His shop was in a small garage that required him to leave the car parked in the street while he worked. He had hand tools, an old table saw that he had... more
