Cordless Power Tools provide freedom to roam.
Not long ago I thought the cordless tool to a worthless addition to my woodworking shop. Not enough power to really get into a project and the batteries really sucked. After all as a redneck woodworker I am into more Power! The more power the better and the cordless power Tools simply did not have the power I wanted.
Well things change in a hurry in the world. With the improved lithium batteries there is now power enough to complete some pretty hefty projects. They are lighter and can last twice as long as the older heavier battery. They still required recharging but not nearly as frequently and the run the power tool at full power until the charge is depleted. The lithium batteries also allow the tool to have a higher voltage and more power! The new battery cuts the weight down so that the average person can use it.
There is still a gap in my opinion between the cordless and corded power tool. The greatest difference is the price. These new lithium batteries are pure gold and that make the price of the cordless tools much higher. The cordless tool is lighter, lasts longer, is more powerful and higher priced. I guess there is a trade off here. You will pay for the freedom to take a cordless tool to any part of the shop or job but that freedom will cost you.
I will admit that I like the idea of using a tool without being attached to any one place and that is why I bought the cordless tools in my shop. Owning a combination of cordless and corded tools is the answer. I own a cordless drill and a cordless saw for the convenience of having a tool that allows me the freedom to work at a project that is not convenient for a corded tool. I am a power freak (redneck woodworker) so I like all the power most jobs can use and that is still the corded power tool.
Cordless tools come in a variety of size, power ranges and prices. Choose the tool that will not only do the job you working on today but will handle any larger jobs in the future. The newer cordless tools can be purchesed in kits that include a couple of different tools, one or two shared batteries and a charger. Pick carefully because the batteries will be different for each tool and for the mosst part will not be interchangeable. And the will almost never be the same between different manufacturers.
The cordless power tools are here to stay and they will only get better, but the tried and true old cordless tools are getting better as well. That is a good thing for all of us as we get to choose which we will use. Take a look at this selection of Cordless Tools at this store.
