The World’s Safest Table Saw-Save Your Fingers

Written by admin on April 12, 2010 – 10:04 am -

THE WORLD’S SAFEST TABLE SAW – Will Not Cut your fingers! This table saw will shut off in a split second leaving you with all your fingers.  This is really a great idea.  We all have those moments when something distracts us in the middle of a cut and the result can be very bad. I have used table saws for many years and I have taught my three boys to use them as well.  I am always concerned with the possibility of a mistake.  This invention reduces the threat and brings a little peace of mind.  However, I caution users of the safe table saw not to let your guard down.  Strange things sometime happen even with the safest of tools. Woodcraft stores carry the safe table saw and I bet you can find one in your area.  They are... more

General Power Tools and the Male Ego

Written by admin on October 22, 2009 – 2:20 pm -

Power Tools & the Male Ego or watch yourself, stupid! General Power Tools are my favorite toy.  It doesn’t matter if you are using a woodworking power tool or an ATV, power is simply exciting to the male ego.  The more power the better and the more dangerous.  Every male thinks he is smart enough to avoid the dangers that general power tools create and that is the real problem with those powerful tools. I have worked with power tools of one kind or another for a lot of years and I am always amazed at the stories I hear about the ways guys are hurt by them.  It seems to me that with a little respect for the tool there would be less accidents every year. ( I will come back and read this the next time I misuse a tool). There are four... more

New Woodworking Shop-A new home for my Power Tools

Written by admin on July 21, 2009 – 2:47 pm -

I am getting a new home for my Power Tools! We are having a detached garage built which will include space for my new workshop.  I am so excited I can’t wait for it to be finished. Yes it will also house our pick ups but the important thing is, IT WILL BE BIG ENOUGH FOR MY WORKSHOP! I have been working in a converted horse shelter for years and although It was dry, it was not warm in the winter, large enough to work larger projects or convenient as it is on the back of our property and did not lend itself to lumber storage, tools maintance or a multitude of other drawbacks. Now I can dream about building decent projects. But first I need to get the layout and effective use of space designed.  I am using the information from a previous... more

Build a Custom Router Table

Written by admin on April 17, 2009 – 10:20 am -

The following instructions for building a router table are the best I have read.  It was written by John English and published on the Dewalt Tools site. Router Table Tips What Kind of Router Table Do You Need? Discover how to make a custom router table A stand-alone cabinet is perhaps the most desirable arrangement for a router table. It provides storage space for extra routers, bits, bases and wrenches, plus it’s heavy enough to be stable. Such a unit can be custom built to suit your own height (it should be half as tall as you are), and it can be outfitted with casters to make better use of limited shop space. There are several portable tables available commercially, but their biggest drawback is a small tabletop (a real pain when... more

Porter Cable Belt Sander-Hard core Power Tool

Written by admin on November 13, 2008 – 10:50 am -

The Porter Cable Belt Sander maybe the toughest Power Tool in my Shop. I have been an amateur woodworker for a lot of years and I have seen Power Tools come and go but the one that has lasted the longest is the Porter Cable Belt Sander. This tough little sander has with stood more abuse than I can describe. It has been used for everything that needs sanding (and a lot of things that would never be recommended by Porter Cable) and has never even slowed down. I love this little 20 year old sander there is nothing in the shop that can compare. There is nothing sexy about it. It just does the work. I like the fact that it is heavy enough to get to work right away, it grabs the work without effort on my part and just goes to work. I don’t... more

Sanders- The image making Power Tool

Written by admin on October 27, 2008 – 11:15 am -

No woodworking project is complete until it has smooth beautiful finish applied and no finish is better than the surface on which it is applied.  Unless you want to start the finishing process over from scratch it is important to note that you MOST have a completely smooth surface BEFORE you apply the surface coating.  I have been guilty of this some many times in the past I could not even begin to count them but I still find it hard to wait until I am certain I have smoothed every surface on my project so that cutting or sanding marks will not show up after I apply my coating.  There always seems to be some small area that could have been worked on a little more.  No project is perfect but when the error stands out it is down right frustrating. I... more

Cordless Power Tools-Powerful Mobility

Written by admin on October 27, 2008 – 10:44 am -

Cordless Power Tools provide freedom to roam. Not long ago I thought the cordless tool to a worthless addition to my woodworking shop.  Not enough power to really get into a project and the batteries really sucked.  After all as a redneck woodworker I am into more Power!  The more power the better and the cordless power Tools simply did not have the power I wanted. Well things change in a hurry in the world.  With the improved lithium batteries there is now power enough to complete some pretty hefty projects.  They are lighter and can last twice as long as the older heavier battery.  They still required recharging but not nearly as frequently and the run the power tool at full power until the charge is depleted.  The lithium batteries... more
